West Ham United are interested in bringing Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne to the club in the January transfer window, according to exWHUemployee.

ExWHUemployee – a reliable source of news on the Hammers – revealed via a Twitter exchange with an Irons fan that there was a long-term interest in the frozen out Reds player, who is yet to start a Premier League game this season under Jurgen Klopp.

The £70,000-a-week [Spotrac] flyer’s only appearance this season has come in the Carabao Cup after failing to return to the first team fold after an injury.

OPINION

A swoop for Nathaniel Clyne in January would be an incredibly smart one, as he has the quality to thrive at a club like West Ham. It is a shame that Klopp does not recognise Clyne’s potential as much as he should, as he was once arguably one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. This was in the 2016/17 season when he was a first team regular – but he has since had to recover from injury, meaning that he has been usurped by the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold. This is not his fault, but he deserves regular first team opportunities, and West Ham is the perfect place to do that. It is no secret that Pablo Zabaleta cannot be playing in every single game at 33, so a move for Clyne would make complete sense – on his day, he can be one of the most threatening right-backs there is with his blistering pace. Clyne should be a priority for Manuel Pellegrini in January, as he could be the answer to most of their prayers.
