West Ham United will not allow striker Javier Hernandez to leave for Valencia in the January transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news website has revealed that the club will not sanction a loan move to the La Liga outfit for the 30-year-old, who has scored five goals so far this season.

Spanish outlet Super Deporte previously claimed that Valencia were chasing the services of West Ham’s 2017 signing, but this report has poured cold water over the link by saying that no player will be allowed to leave in the New Year.

OPINION

West Ham are spot on to have such a stance on Hernandez. They have had numerous problems with their strike force this season – the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez have been injured – so to retain Hernandez would be a great bit of business. Yes, admittedly he is not first choice for Manuel Pellegrini, but if he were to leave, the Irons would be incredibly short of options up front. That would be a worst case scenario for the manager, especially with Perez not impressing after his summer move. Pellegrini needs the Mexican international more than ever now, particularly if the club are aiming for a top-ten Premier League finish. Hernandez can be lethal when he wants to be, and that is something that West Ham will no doubt be making the most of in the remainder of this season. Anyway, with the wage Hernandez is currently on – £140,000-a-week according to Spotrac – a lot of clubs would immediately be put off.
