Garth Crooks was mightily impressed by the display of West Ham midfielder Felipe Anderson following the 2-1 win over Southampton on Thursday.

The Brazilian star netted two goals in quick succession in the second half in order to secure all three points, bringing his goal tally for the season so far up to eight.

The Hammers now sit in ninth place in the Premier League after this victory, and BBC Sport pundit Crooks reckons that the 25-year-old was unfortunate not to have netted a third at St Mary’s Stadium.

“What a fabulous counter attack. West Ham absolutely ripped Southampton to shreds on the back of their own free-kick. Once the ball fell to Felipe Anderson that was it,” he told BBC Sport.

“The Brazilian is playing the most consistent football I think I’ve seen him play. His earlier strike put West Ham on level terms and with a little luck Anderson might have had a hat-trick.

“The Hammers are blowing bubbles at the moment and it is all down to Felipe Anderson. An outstanding performance.”

OPINION

Anderson is on fire for West Ham at the moment, so it is no surprise that Crooks has heaped praise on him in the way that he has. Anderson has been outstanding, just like the pundit has pointed out, and there is no doubting that he is starting to prove his worth after his club record move. The have got themselves a real gem here, and it would be no surprise in the slightest if Anderson started to attract the attention of some of the Premier League heavyweights. He is by far West Ham’s signing of the summer, and if he carries on in the way that he is, the Irons will be finding themselves amongst the top ten come the end of the season. Pellegrini must be rubbing his hands together in excitement of what is to come from Anderson, as it looks like he has not even entered first gear yet.
