Garth Crooks was mightily impressed by the display of West Ham United midfielder Felipe Anderson following the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Brazilian netted the Hammers’ third goal of the game in stoppage time at the weekend – his sixth strike of the season – to ensure that his team claimed all three points and maintained their winning streak.

The BBC pundit says that the Irons star has now “developed a taste for goals” – and even though he is not as “volatile” as former players Paolo di Canio and Dimitri Payet, his form indicates that it is the start of a “rather beautiful friendship” with the club.

“Felipe Anderson is playing out of his skin at the moment. Apart from his undoubted technical ability, the Brazilian has developed a taste for goals. But what West Ham fans will enjoy most is the player’s brand of football. This lad can play,” he told BBC Sport.

“Anderson does not possess the volatile explosions of Paolo di Canio or the temperament of Dimitri Payet, but he’s in that class, which rather suggests this could be the beginning of a rather beautiful friendship with the Hammers.”

OPINION

Crooks has been a big fan of West Ham’s record signing in the past and it seems to be no different here. Who can blame him though? The form Anderson has been showing in recent matches is only a glimpse of what he is fully capable of, and this is will be a rather exciting prospect for the supporters. He was beginning to be doubted but he has now proved any doubters wrong, and he will certainly be crucial to the success of the Hammers this season. The playmaker was unplayable at the weekend – he had a field day with the Palace defence – and Manuel Pellegrini is probably rubbing his hands together in anticpation of what he could do next. Fingers crossed he can maintain this excellent form, as who knows what the club can achieve while he is in the side. As Crooks pointed out, the signs are indicating this to be the start of a wonderful friendship with the club.
