West Ham United are interested in moving for highly-rated Barcelona star Munir El Haddadi, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claims that the Hammers are one of four teams chasing the 23-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Mundo Deportivo’s report states that the attacker wants to remain at the Nou Camp until the end of the campaign, when West Ham, Napoli, Schalke and Marseille will likely move for him.

The Spain international has long been viewed as a superstar-in-waiting, however he has struggled this term with just two goals so far.

OPINION

This would be a sensational signing for the Hammers. Munir has always been thought of as someone who could reach the upper echelons of the game, ever since he made his Barcelona debut, and so for him to come to the London Stadium would be massive. His star status has waned slightly this season, but he still enjoyed an excellent campaign last time out. He scored 14 goals and grabbed seven assists in 37 games as Ernesto Valverde’s side romped to the La Liga title. For someone of that calibre to be playing in claret and blue would be huge for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. West Ham can likely outbid Schalke and Marseille, and can certainly pay higher wages than those two teams. Napoli would be tougher to overcome, of course. They are better off financially than those other sides and possess a world class manager in Carlo Ancelotti. It will certainly be a battle to bring him in but West Ham would be pulling off a stunner if they can do it.
