West Ham should give McCarthy a chance

West Ham United must give Everton midfielder James McCarthy a chance in January in order to fix their problem position.

Manuel Pellegrini has had an ever-growing injury list lately, with the midfield one of the worst hit areas of the pitch – the likes of Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko are currently on the sidelines.

McCarthy has been on the sidelines for a while and is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League under boss Marco Silva due to recovering from an injury – but with the likes of Andre Gomes in the team, a first team opportunity will not arise anytime soon upon his return.

However, the 28-year-old has 222 top-flight appearances to his name and it would be a shame to let these go to waste at Everton, especially with the signings they have made this season.

Giving him a chance at the London Stadium would also allow the midfield a bit of breathing space, especially if there are any more injuries that occur.

A player with that amount of experience could walk straight into the starting XI with ease, especially if Pedro Obiang continues to be inconsistent.

He is currently on £50,000-a-week [Spotrac] at Goodison Park, a wage that the Irons would be more than capable of matching, as well as the potential transfer fee that would come with it.

Pellegrini can pretty much guarantee him regular minutes at the club, and if he joined and ended up making a success of himself, Wilshere would have to kiss his West Ham career goodbye before it had even got barely started.

Either way, the manager would be on to an absolute winner by moving for McCarthy in January, as he has the right amount of experience to ease West Ham’s woes straight away.
