West Ham United striker Jordan Hugill is arguably not the most memorable of players that the club have had the fortune to have their books.

Currently on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough, the 26-year-old endured a rather torrid start to life in the second-tier before managing to net three in the last three games, lifting Boro up to third in the league.

Club insider Claret and Hugh have reported that Boro have an option to buy attacked to the loan deal, with the Hammers slapping a £6million price tag on his head.

However, that figure is too much for someone who was virtually ignored at West Ham – even if he has started to recapture his goalscoring form.

Yes, he was brought in for £10million by former manager David Moyes, and there is no doubt that the Irons want to recoup some of the cash that they paid for him – but he is definitely not worth £6million.

There is no guarantee that Middlesbrough will want to make his move to the club permanent in the summer’s transfer window, so in order to attract other parties, they will need to decrease the asking price slightly.

Hugill will need to play out of his skin for the rest of the season in order to convince Tony Pulis that he should sign him, and if he does not, West Ham will need to find a way to offload him.

Lower their price, and they will attract admirers left, right and centre.

West Ham will no doubt be banking on the fact that Hugill is scoring goals for fun for the remainder of the season as this is their only hope of binning him on a permanent basis.

Either way, his price tag must be lowered, otherwise they will not be laughing if they end up being stuck with a player who has never started a game.
