Manuel Pellegrini is considering naming West Ham attacker Andy Carroll on the bench for the upcoming clash with Manchester City, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim that the 29-year-old forward, who is yet to feature in the 2018/19 season due to injury, is fit and available for Saturday’s clash with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Sky Sports report that Carroll may not be the only player returning to the Hammers squad for the match with Man City as Jack Wilshere could also be named in it after missing the last few games due to injury.

OPINION

Carroll hasn’t played a competitive game for the Hammers since May where he played 24 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Manchester United. It’s no surprise that the forward is yet to feature this season and no one is really surprised that injury has stopped him from being available. Carroll is  a handful for any Premier League defence on his day but he has been constantly riddled with injuries problems in recent seasons. While it would be nice to be able to feel sorry for the forward as clearly he’d rather be playing, it’s more frustrating for Hammers fans as the club have stuck by the player for so long now. You feel that if the Hammers had got rid of him sooner or replaced him in the squad then the Hammers would be better for it as they’d likely have a reliable goalscorer to call upon. However if Carroll is to return against Man City then it’s on him to show everyone what he can do and more importantly his future depends on whether he can stay fit for the foreseeable future.
