Liverpool are keen to loan out striker Dominic Solanke which now means that West Ham United have been put on high alert, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports on its website that the Reds would prefer to offload fellow forward Divock Origi on a permanent basis, but are prepared to let Solanke leave temporarily if they do not receive any offers for Origi’s services.

The report states that the Hammers are one of the teams interested in taking on the young ace, on £25k-a-week at Liverpool – Crystal Palace is the other party – but they would need to assure Liverpool that their prospect is receiving adequate game time before he is allowed to join forces with them.

OPINION

It has been well documented that West Ham are in need of another striker to share the burden with Marko Arnautovic, so it is not surprising that they are interested in a loan deal for Solanke. However, he has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, which has seriously affected the number of minutes that he has played – which means that he does not have that much experience at the moment. The Irons need an attacker who is able to keep Arnautovic on his toes, and Solanke is not that player. West Ham need a proven goalscorer, and it will be a while until Solanke is able to achieve that – meaning that a move for him in January seems completely unnecessary. That is not to deny that Solanke does not have the talent, he does – although it still needs to be nursed in order for him to progress into a fully-fledged frontman.
