A number of West Ham United supporters are undecided over the merits of the club’s reportedly imminent signing of former Premier League winner Samir Nasri.
The Evening Standard reported on Monday that the French midfielder was undergoing a medical with the Hammers before an £80,000-per-week deal with the side.
The newspaper’s report claims that the former Manchester City man will sign a six month contract, with the option for a longer deal. The news has split the West Ham faithful, with some supportive of the move and others dismissive.
COMMENTARY
Nasri is an incredibly divisive figure so it’s no surprise to see the Hammers fans react in this way. The Frenchman is 31 years of age and coming off an 18 month drug ban – he’s unlikely to set the world on fire. There’s a chance that once he builds his fitness back up he could be an influential contributor for the club, but he could also fall flat on his face and prove he’s past his best. He didn’t exactly pull up any trees at Sevilla or Antalyaspor before his ban, so it’s hard to be confident in him at this point. He does have tremendous talent, that’s always been clear, while he played some of the best football of his career under Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini at City. All in all, the West Ham supporters are right to be split on him, because no one knows what he’s got left in the tank. All they can do is trust Pellegrini’s judgement and support the player once he pulls that claret and blue shirt on.

What does that say to Rice! Club willing to spend a lot on a bench warmer but won’t pay half the wages to a first team regular! If I was Rice I would hand my transfer request in the day he signs. Going nowhere under these muppets.

Wow this seems to be progressing very quickly, should be a good squad player especially considering how experienced he is and the ammount of injuries we currently have.

Smart business but not the most important business #Rice

It's not a bad deal as in the amount on wages in today's market but sorting this before Rice's contract is an awful decision IMO

Nasri was a great attacking midfielder with great technical ability. Will be a great addition. Hopefully we wont have to rely on Antonio anymore. Perhaps that's behind MPs thinking.

Played 8 games in 15 months for a bang average Turkish side, spent 6 months on a doping ban. Same age as Noble, £80k a week. Guardiola said he was overweight and didn’t like his attitude. Hope he’s a changed man!
