West Ham fans have been reacting on Twitter after the club posted pictures of Andy Carroll making his long-awaited return from injury in a friendly on Thursday.

The colossal striker made his first appearance of the season in a behind-closed-doors win over Brentford, with Robert Snodgrass and Javier Hernandez scoring in a 2-1 victory.

Carroll played 45 minutes of the win upon his return from an ankle injury, and fans have been reacting on Twitter, with many savaging the rarely-seen first-teamer for his injury problems.

COMMENTARY

These West Ham fans are obviously not all that excited about seeing Carroll return to action after several months out, and you can understand why. The colossal striker, as dangerous as he is on his day, has simply not given the club enough return on their investment during his six-year spell in east London. His injury history is pretty appalling, and his £90,000-a-week wages have seen the club invest some significant funds during his time at the club. Obviously those injuries are out of his control, but these fans are obviously ready to see Carroll leave the club for good in the summer. It will be interesting to see what actually happens with Carroll between now and the end of the season, and whether the club decide to offer him a new deal if he manages to stay injury free. There will quite obviously be fans who disagree with that decision if it does happen, and it is hard to blame them for that stance.
