West Ham United defender Reece Oxford is eager on a return to Germany’s top flight in January, according to Claret and Hugh.

The insider – who is a reliable source of news on the Hammers – says that the 19-year-old fringe player is more than willing to go back to the country where he was on loan last season before he was asked to come back by ex-manager David Moyes.

The youngster was at Borussia Monchengladbach and the insider has reported that he wants them to complete a permanent transfer for his capture, especially as West Ham are not interested in any loan offers for him.

They are said to regard a fee of £5 million as adequate for his services.

OPINION

The fact that Oxford himself is keen on a move back to Germany will surely delight everyone involved with the club, and it shows that the club are heading in the right direction. Sky Sports previously reported that Monchengladbach were keen on sealing a permanent move for Oxford, but a transfer looks more likely to happen now that he has expressed an interest in moving himself. He has not had a single first team opportunity this season and he is unlikely to in the forseeable future, so a permanent move would benefit everyone involved. It is a shame to dismiss a player who is still so young and in the development stage, but that stage in his career will progress a lot more when he is getting more first team opportunities. It is not a surprise that West Ham are not interested in a loan move for him – so they are much better off getting rid of him while they can.
