OPINION
Excitement is certainly building around Xande Silva. The young man has missed a couple of months with injury but reintroduced himself for West Ham United’s under-23 side on Monday in their 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. The 21-year-old, who has yet to be seen in the senior side, looked electric throughout and it didn’t take long for him to find the back of the net. He netted in either half, securing victory for the young Hammers after midfielder Nathan Holland put them ahead early on. His contribution has engendered a fanatic response from the West Ham faithful, who are already calling for the youngster to be given a first team call up. You can understand the excitement over the attacker, who impressed before his injury as well, but there’s no need to rush him into the first team picture just yet. He needs to be given sufficient time to recover from his setback before he makes his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s set up. However, performances like Monday’s will only increase the fervour around the Portuguese.
