Samir Nasri’s seemingly imminent move to West Ham United is now in jeopardy due to his fitness levels, according to Claret & Hugh.

The Telegraph reported on Monday that the Frenchman was undergoing a medical with the Hammers ahead of a move to the club, with Manuel Pellegrini keen to reunite with the player, but the West Ham insider has now confirmed that that deal may not come off.

The club are said to be concerned about how long it will take the 31-year-old to be ready for action, with the midfielder coming off an 18 month drugs ban.

Nasri’s medical has underlined that fact, and the Hammers are now reconsidering the offer they made him. A source told Claret & Hugh that the move is now a fifty-fifty proposition.

OPINION

Did West Ham not see this coming? Of course Nasri’s fitness levels aren’t going to be at their best, he’s been out for a year and a half. Surely the reason they were bringing him in now when he’s not available to play until January was because they were going to work on his fitness between now and then. So why are they surprised that he’s not in match shape? The only conclusion to draw is that Nasri is in even worse shape than they anticipated, so much so that they have doubts about whether he’d be able to get ready for January. Still, this should be something that the club considered before they made a well-documented move for the player. If they don’t end up bringing him in now then they are going to be left with egg on their face for not anticipating this problem. The Hammers must decide whether to bring him in in the hope that Pellegrini will be able to whip him into shape, or simply move on.
