West Ham have been given an extra incentive to sort out Declan Rice’s contract situation as Borussia Dortmund are reportedly sniffing around his services.

The Sun reported on Thursday that the German giants had their eye on the 6ft tall defender (Source: Transfermarkt) along with Manchester City promising prospect Phil Foden.

The newspaper noted that the Hammers were struggling to tie down Rice to to a new deal and with Borussia Dortmund, who compete on a regular basis in the prestigious Champions League, then clearly the London club had added motivation to sort out a new deal for the player.

Borussia Dortmund’s decision to be lurking in the background keeping tabs on the Hammers teen, shows how much of a promising talent he is.

For a club the size of Dortmund to already start registering an interest in his progress then it shows that the Premier League club have a very promising gem on their hands, that they need to ensure he stays at the club for the long-term.

While Rice’s contract isn’t on the brink of expiring by any means, the Hammers still need to get a deal done as soon as possible as Borussia Dortmund will be the first of many prestigious clubs to have him on their radar.

The 19-year-old enforcer, who has been playing in midfield this season, has shone in his seven appearances of the season so far, and it would be upsetting if his future laid at another club.

According to the Daily Star, the Hammers have offered Rice a new contract package worth £46,000-a-week, but as yet he hasn’t officially penned a new deal.

However the London club must ensure that happens in the near future as they have been handed an extra incentive to get a deal done with a club like Borussia Dortmund lurking in the background.
