West Ham must be the club to snatch Juan Mata from Manchester United’s clutches if their reported crunch contract talks with him go awry.

The Sun reported that Man United are set for showdown talks with the magical midfielder over a new deal for him as his current contract expires in the summer, but according to their source it’s not guaranteed he would sign.

“Mata’s dad is a tough negotiator and it has not gone down well how this situation has been allowed to drag on,” the unnamed Old Trafford source told the newspaper.

“United will try their best to convince them to stay, but it is by no means certain that even extra cash will do the trick.

“It’s purely about playing for Juan. The club know they have left it late and are desperately running out of time.”

Given that Mata has dazzled in the Premier League in recent seasons and is a player capable of creating moments of creative magic for his side then it’s clear he could do well in Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

He would also be an amazing bargain as it’s not very often a midfield maestro, who earn £140,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac) becomes available on a free transfer.

Mata’s passing ability and knack for aiding his side’s cause in front of goal, after all he has been involved with 105 goals in 226 Premier League appearances, would see him able to help the Hammers climb the table.

As The Sun’s report stated the 30-year-old midfielder would be able to start negotiating a move to a foreign club in January if his contract situation isn’t resolved by Man United.

According to the paper Valencia as well as a number of European clubs already have their sights on him and that means that the Hammers would have to get negotiating a potential deal with the player as soon as possible, in order to see off the tough competition for him.

However Mata is well worth the effort as he would be a success at the London Stadium so the Hammers must be prepared to pounce if Man United mess up his contract talks in order to be able to spring into action ASAP to get his signature.
