OPINION

If there is one area of the pitch that West Ham United do not need to improve in, many would say the attacking midfield.

Why would anybody complain about the quality that the Hammers possess in this role? The signings of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmlenko are both testament to how far the club have come.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, West Ham have reignited their pursuit of Sevilla playmaker Franco Vazquez – a move that is totally unnecessary and actually quite bizarre.

Why do West Ham need another player with creative attributes when they already have them in abundance? It does not make sense in the slightest.

That is not denying the talent that La Liga ace Vazquez has – he has a lot of that – but it would just be wasted on a club like West Ham.

Many questions are undoubtedly arising from this latest report – one of them being where Pellegrini intends to play the Argentine in a team jam-packed with quality.

What would he then do with Yarmolenko and Anderson? They are too good to be on the bench – but on the other hand, so is Vazquez.

If anything, this reason alone highlights why pursuing him is a bad idea.

Vazquez does not deserve not to be used on a regular basis, as he is just too good – and if West Ham are serious about snapping him up in January, then they must be able to promise a lot of game time.

If they cannot do that, then they will recognise why going in for him again is a bad idea.

The Irons have more than enough quality in the midfield to thrive this season – and adding somebody else to the mix may just complicate things.

Time for West Ham to put a stop to their pursuit, as it just highlights how greedy they are being.
