Many West Ham supporters opted to heap praise on teenager Declan Rice for his performance during the 1-0 defeat courtesy of Brighton on Friday.

The 19-year-old centre-back turned defensive midfielder played the full game for his side and several Hammers fans seem to believe he was the only positive for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in their latest outing.

One supporter tweeted that Rice didn’t put a foot wrong and had big future in the game while another claimed he was ready to be a top player as he clearly had the winning mentality that is needed.

OPINION

Rice was superb against Brighton and deserves every bit of praise coming his way. The defender turned midfielder was in sublime form despite his side losing and constantly tried to get his side back in the game. A lot of his teammates struggled in the first half, which actually cost his team the game, but not Rice. As soon as the whistle blew the teenager was head and shoulders above his teammates and you’d be mistaken if you thought he was one of the senior members of his side. The 19-year-old was unbelievable as one fan above described him, simply because he manage to excel despite Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang not pulling their weight. It’s bold that one Hammers supporter claimed that Rice was the best player in the Premier League right now as they may be pushing it, with the likes of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard excelling, but he is certainly one of the most exciting prospect developing in front of everyone’s eyes in this division.
