Many Tottenham fans on social media heavily criticised defender Ben Davies despite him helping his side defeat West Ham 1-0 on Saturday.

The 25-year-old left-back played the whole 90 minutes against the Hammers at the London Stadium and several Spurs were very unhappy with his display.

One Spurs fan tweeted that Davies was being quietly atrocious during his latest performance while another claimed via their social media account that the full-back was the worst player on the pitch.

Davies was making his sixth league appearance of the season and it seems at least some Spurs supporters aren’t keen to see him make his seventh.

OPINION

It’s understandable why Spurs fans were fuming with Davies as he had all the opportunities to impress against the Hammers, especially in the first-half.  Andriy Yarmolenko allowed Davies to bypass him and team up Lucas Moura on the flank in order to double-team Pablo Zabaleta. Yet despite having the numbers advantage due the Hammers having a winger who wouldn’t track back, the left-back didn’t really make the most of it. Once Yarmolenko went off with an injury, which unfortunately looked rather bad and could see him miss a significant amount of time for the Hammers,  Davies didn’t have much space to operate in when going forward. This put the spotlight on the defensive side of his performance and he looked to be his side’s weak point. As one Spurs fan tweeted the left-back didn’t seem able to make the simplest of passes and the Hammers were nearly gifted a way back into the game due to the defender’s sloppiness.
