When you think of striker Edin Dzeko, you think of the success that he enjoyed in abundance during his stint at Manchester City.

Those were arguably his best days, and his form even contributed to them lifting the Premier League title.

However, one club you do not think of when Dzeko springs to mind is West Ham.

That is not slating West Ham in anyway, but the fact that Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have reported that the Hammers could offer the forward a return to the top-flight is actually rather worrying for one key player.

That player is Marko Arnautovic, who has no doubt enjoyed his status as one of the undroppable players in the Irons starting XI this season.

He has been a mainstay in the team for a while now, but that may all be put to an end if West Ham manage to secure the services of ex-Premier League attacker Dzeko.

Arnautovic and Dzeko are both tall, strong strikers who have relatively the same build – so if Dzeko is introduced, then Arnautovic will be ousted out of the side.

Manuel Pellegrini will not need two players who are very similiar playing alongside each other, and he will have to pick between the two.

There is no denying that Dzeko is an excellent forward, but Arnautovic is currently in fantastic form, so it would be unfair to sign a talisman who has the potential to replace him in the first team.

Dzeko is not as good as he used to be, so acquiring his services would essentially be pointless – West Ham are much better off without him.

Arnautovic will no doubt be praying that a move is not negotiated for the transfer of the 32-year-old come the January transfer window.

The Irons need to recruit a striker who is younger and a lot more agile – two things which Dzeko is not.

A choice needs to be made as to whether the signing will be made – which could result in Arnautovic being dropped from the team – or whether West Ham will decide to to abandon their pursuit.

Over to you, Manuel Pellegrini.
