Former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison delivered an insight into how Manuel Pellegrini is on the training pitch and praised him for his character.

The 30-year-old, who manages the Hammers’ U-16’s side, shared that it was very pleasing to see the experienced manager every day as he never shies away from his beliefs.

Collison added that Pellegrini stayed calm through the Hammers’ terrible start to season and his faith was now paying off, with his side submitting some positive performances as of late.

“The pleasing thing about Pellegrini seeing him day in day out on the training pitch and seeing his character and what he is like, he hasn’t gone away from his beliefs,” said Collison on Friday via BBC Radio 5 Live’s Big Weekend Preview, which can be heard here (19:31 minute mark).

“He has remained calm throughout and we’re starting to see some positive performances, against Manchester United and Chelsea and it’s well set up to be a mouthwatering game (vs Tottenham) tomorrow.”

OPINION

Collison knows what it takes to succeed at the Hammers after playing over hundred times for the club and his comments on Pellegrini are reassuring. The 30-year-old clearly believes the club has the right man in charge and seems to have been particularly impressed with how the manager responded to his side’s terrible start to the start. The Hammers slumped to several defeats in row before getting off their mark in the league in the current campaign and other managers probably would of panicked. Pellegrini plays a very attacking style of football and at times during the club’s opening games, opponents were punishing his team for that. However the manager stuck with his methods and success has followed. The Hammers may have lost their last game to Brighton 1-0 but after amazing displays against Chelsea and Manchester United, there’s a real sense of belief that the London club can beat Spurs on Saturday.
