Tony Cascarino heaped praised on West Ham’s attacking trio as he shared he previously thought the club were set for a relegation scrap.

The retired footballer, who is regularly on Sky Sports Daily programme, shared that he thought following the Hammers’ terrible start that they would be battling at the bottom end of the Premier League but now that didn’t look the case because of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko forming a dangerous attacking trio with Marko Arnautovic.

Cascarino praised Yarmolenko and Anderson for settling in at the London Stadium after joining in the summer before claiming that the Hammers were lucky to have Arnautovic.

“After their terrible start I thought West Ham might be in a relegation scrap,” wrote the Sky pundit in his column for The Times.

“But summer signings such as Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko are starting to settle and forming a dangerous-looking trio with Marko Arnautovic.

“Anderson looks at home now — taking his goal with a back-heel flick like he did shows great confidence.

“Yarmolenko is scoring goals and creating chances but Arnautovic remains the star for me.

“He works hard, he causes any defence problems. I’ve said it before but he has the ability to be a Champions League player and West Ham are lucky to have him.”

OPINION

Cascarino is right to suggest that he no longer fears relegation and it makes sense that the performances of Anderson, Yarmolenko and Arnautovic have muted those fears. The Sky pundit claimed that Anderson was showing confidence and it’s hard to disagree with that statement as the Brazilian beautifully scored his first goal of the club against Manchester United with a cheeky back-heel flick. Less confident players would have simply gone for a less stylish shot but the winger showed his attacking flair with the way he opted to snatch up the chance. There were many positives to be found in the Hammers’ recent 3-1 victory over Man United but the performance of Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking trio will be taking the majority of the praise. This is because the three Hammers players are exciting to watch and border on showboating with antics so it’s hard to not have your eyes drawn to them instead of players like Declan Rice and Mark Noble, who are also doing extremely well at the moment.
