The summer window of 2018 felt like a significant one for West Ham United, with owners David Gold and David Sullivan loosening the purse strings for new boss Manuel Pellegrini to spend nearly £100million.

The Hammers did not start the season well, but a recent resurgence has shown they are on the right track under the Chilean, who has the experience to take the club to heights not seen in east London for a long while.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes, a few more tweaks to the squad could well see the Irons transform into a club capable of eating at the top table of English football.

Their much-maligned move to the London Stadium has made that possible in many ways, and the next thing for the club is to bring in that marquee, world-class player.

As reported by the Mirror, PSG winger Angel Di Maria is ready to return to the Premier League after an ill-fated spell at Manchester United previously.

The Argentina winger is entering the final few months of his contract in Paris, and is demanding a contract worth £200,000-a-week at his next club.

While that may seem out of West Ham’s reach, the fact that Di Maria would cost nothing would surely make this financially viable for the Hammers, who would be bringing in that world-class marquee player they need to go to the next level.

Di Maria may have flopped at United, but the Argentine dazzler is undoubtedly a top-level operator in attack and would bring huge experience to their forward line.

His previous experience in the Premier League will have prepared him for what is to come, and he could end up being a real favourite at the London Stadium.

This is a signing which would announce West Ham’s arrival at the top level of English football, and they must put the wheels in motion to make it happen next summer.
