West Ham winger Xande Silva has returned to light training as he bids to step up his recovery from a hamstring injury, according to football.london journalist Sam Inkersole

Inkersole, who is the West Ham correspondent for the Reach site, reported on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the Portuguese powerhouse had returned to ‘very light’ training.

It is added that Silva is yet to train with any teammates, merely completing the work on his own as he looks to make his way back into contention after suffering the problem in September.

As reported by football.london, Silva has caught the eye with his performances for the Under-23s this season, and manager Manuel Pellegrini has been blown away by him.

OPINION

This is a big boost for Silva and West Ham as the 21-year-old bids to make his return to action after such an unfortunately-timed injury. The youngster was installed straight into the Under-23s following his move from Vitoria Guimaraes in the summer, and instantly began to tear it up at that level. An early hat-trick and more goals followed, with Silva catching the eye of Pellegrini and his staff, who invited him to train with the first-team on several occasions. West Ham’s early season disaster, in which they lost their first four games of the Premier League season, was surely set to give Silva a chance to make his first-team debut, but this injury dashed his chances. In the time he has been out the club have improved hugely on the pitch and he will now have to work his way back through the Under-23s again before possibly getting a first-team shot towards the end of the season.
