West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere has had a small setback in his return from injury and is out of action indefinitely as he continues to try and recover, according to reliable journalist Sam Inkersole.

The Football London reporter has revealed via his personal Twitter account that the 26-year-old has suffered a minor blow in his recovery from the surgery he underwent on his ankle.

He adds that the club do not yet know when the summer signing – who stands at 5ft 8in [Transfermarkt] – will make a return to the pitch after he received yet another injury blow to his ankle just four games in to the Premier League season.

OPINION

Wilshere will no doubt be gutted about this minor setback in his recovery, as he has already missed roughly half of the season due to his injury. He has been notorious in the past for having problems with his ankle, and it seems he cannot even escape it at West Ham. However, his loss has not been felt by the team since he was sidelined – if anything, the turnaround in results has been due to the fact that he has not been playing. He was heavily criticised for his midfield partnership with Mark Noble, which it is safe to say has not worked out for the best. Some may argue that it is a coincidence that the team started improving in his absence, some will argue differently – however, one thing that all fans can agree on is that he has had a rather indifferent start to life at the club. It will remain to be seen where he will fit into the first team upon his eventual return, especially with the new-look midfield trio progressing rather nicely.
