Key West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere is on course to return from his latest injury lay-off by the end of October, according to club insiders Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers news site, which has extensive links within the club, report that the 26-year-old could be ready to play against Burnley in their Premier League clash on the 3rd of November.

Claret and Hugh claim that Wilshere’s recovery from his latest surgery is going as planned, with the former Arsenal man seeing a screw from a previous operation loosen in his ankle.

OPINION

This is a welcome boost for West Ham as they look to build on their recent upturn in form after the international break. Wilshere was one of the few Hammers players who was playing well in the early season when they were seriously struggling for form, so to have him back soon will be a major lift for the club. That is especially true when you consider the serious injury suffered by fellow midfielder Carlos Sanchez recently, with the Colombia international set for a long spell on the sidelines, possibly until towards the end of the season. Wilshere’s return therefore becomes more important for Manuel Pellegrini, who has struggled to find the right balance in his midfield at times so far. However, a trio of Mark Noble, Declan Rice and Pedro Obiang have done a decent job in their most recent matches, in a run which has taken the Irons up to 15th in the Premier League table.
