West Ham United remain interested in a move for Porto attacker Yacine Brahimi but will face stiff competition for his signature, according to Noticias au Minuto.

The Portuguese news outlet claims that the Hammers are one of five teams looking to sign the in-demand Algerian, alongside Besiktas, Marseille, Lyon and Lazio.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were heavily linked with the player this summer, but Record reported that the 28-year-old turned down a switch to East London.

However, that has seemingly failed to diminish the club’s interest in Brahimi, with goals from midfield being something West Ham have sorely lacked so far this season.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that the club are still after Brahimi given how talented a player he is. Despite him reportedly rejecting a move to the Hammers this summer, the powers that be at the London Stadium obviously feel it’s worth giving signing him another go. The Algeria international does offer something that none of West Ham’s first choice midfield three provide: goals. He is a threat from midfield and he does operate further forward than any of Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang. He’s not quite as mobile as Andriy Yarmolenko, Marko Arnautovic and Felipe Anderson so perhaps a position in the midfield trio – supported by Rice and Noble – would be better suited to his talents. His versatility, though, would be a big plus for the team moving forward, as he can operate in midfield or further forward. The club face fierce competition for his signature, but they should be looking to do all they can to bring him in.
