West Ham United are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan in January, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

Speaking on the latest episode of The West Ham Way show [33:52], Ex claimed that the Hammers are tracking the 6ft 3in  powerhouse [Transfermarkt] and are considering a temporary deal in January.

In a discussion about potential January targets, Ex said: “We want Loftus-Cheek on loan from Chelsea, that’s another option. There’s a few players, again at Chelsea, who could be available for loans.”

Loftus-Cheek has been on the fringes at Chelsea this season, making just three appearances in all competitions.

OPINION

The Hammers have been linked with a move for Loftus-Cheek for a while now, but this is the first we have heard of a potential January loan swoop for the England international. It is one which makes perfect sense for West Ham as well, with the Irons contending with a mini injury crisis in midfield at the moment, so a temporary deal for a player like Loftus-Cheek would be ideal. It is also a move which would likely make sense for the player himself, with Loftus-Cheek having been confined to a substitute role for much of this season so far under Maurizio Sarri. His decision to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place after the World Cup was one that looked to make sense at the time, but it is one which has backfired unfortunately. The chances of him breaking into the starting team at Chelsea is minimal, and a loan move in January may be the best option for him at this stage.
