A number of West Ham United supporters have been praising defensive ace Issa Diop after his performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Hammers fell to a 1-0 defeat against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but it wasn’t for lack of trying from the team’s 6ft 4in centre half [Source: Transfermarkt].
Diop produced a typically commanding performance alongside Fabian Balbuena in the centre of Manuel Pellegrini’s defence, and was unlucky to be on the losing side at the London Stadium.

Very agreeable, best player on pitch. We have a nice spine to the team and with injured players to come it should be fine. Just a shame against a poor spurs team that's a match we need to get something out of. #coyi pic.twitter.com/biaLR0PiwH

OPINION
It was another magnificent display from Diop, and against top opposition too. Although the Hammers came out on the losing side, Diop didn’t deserve to be walking off the pitch with nothing on Saturday. The former Toulouse man was an absolute rock at the back, never letting Tottenham’s coterie of attacking talents get past him and providing a solid barrier in front of the equally impressive Lukasz Fabianski in the West Ham goal. His partnership with Fabian Balbuena is becoming key to everything the team does well, and as long as those two stay together Pellegrini’s team should be fine moving forward. Diop kept Spurs star Harry Kane in his pocket today, keeping the world’s best centre forward on an extremely tight leash at the London Stadium. The Frenchman was terrific against Manchester United last month and he carried that on here against Tottenham with another imperious display for the Hammers – you can understand exactly why the supporters were so pleased with him.
