West Ham reportedly have an option to extend striker Andy Carroll’s contract by two years after it expires in the summer, and many fuming fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news.
As reported by Hammers insider website Claret and Hugh, the club have inserted a clause in his deal which allows them to extend it by two years if they do not want to lose the 29-year-old star.
West Ham fans on Twitter have been reacting to the claim, with many seemingly keen on offloading Carroll at the first opportunity after his injury-ravaged six-year spell in east London.

Surely this is NOT right. Carroll’s been on a virtual holiday for 5 years at our expense. No deal and send him back to Newcastle. I remain surprised by those who stand by Carroll though he’s yet to give us at least 20 games a season. Get rid!

That’s rubbish, we are going the exercise the 2 year option not offer a new contract

What a joke. I would stop his wages now for the way him and Reid behaved on pre season.

OPINION
This is a development which seems to have hit a nerve with these West Ham fans, who are clearly against the idea of Carroll spending any more time at the club, or any more of the club’s money. The colossal striker has spent much of his five years at the club on the treatment table, so you can see where they are coming from. His wages are reported to be close to the £100,000-a-week mark, so that is a lot of money which the club are haemorrhaging on a player who has hardly contributed on the pitch since he joined. There are those who will back the club handing him a new deal, with Carroll admittedly being unplayable on his day, but surely his time at the club must now come to an end? His injury record is simply too devastating for any club to hand him a long-term deal anymore. The only situation in which a stay at the London Stadium would be acceptable is if he accepted a pay-as-you-play deal. That would be a contract which benefits the club and allows Carroll the opportunity to rebuild his reputation.
