West Ham United will not sell or buy anybody in the January transfer window, according to club insider Claret and Hugh.

Claret and Hugh – who are a reliable source of news on the Hammers with inside sources at the club – have revealed that boss Manuel Pellegrini reckons that he now has a full strength team who is capable of competing in the top half of the Premier League.

Pellegrini does not plan to sell or buy anybody in January, although it is stated that striker Javier Hernandez could well be in the firing line if anyone can meet the asking price and his wages, and the manager has already made it clear that he wants a squad full of quality players rather than just a first team.

OPINION

Given West Ham’s current form, this news does not come as much of a surprise at the moment. Why would Pellegrini want to sell or buy any players in January when his team are on an impressive run? It would make no sense whatsoever, so he has made the correct call here. Bringing players in would be absolutely pointless, and they would only be sitting on the bench if they did join. Overcrowding would hamper their Premier League chances and it appears that Pellegrini is content with the level of talent that he can choose from at the moment. Wanting to have a squad full of quality players, rather than just a first team, is a wise move from the Chilean. It allows him that extra bit of breathing space if anyone gets injured – and he knows he will not be compromising on talent when he brings in a replacement. However, we will soon tell whether this will be the case – or whether the Irons will be tempted to sign someone after Christmas.
