West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has said that he will get in contact with Andriy Yarmolenko after he injured himself in the clash against Tottenham on Saturday.

The attacking flyer sustained a serious injury to his Achilles during the 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium, and has been ruled out for six months as a result of the setback.

Gold has since sent a message to the 29-year-old – who recently underwent an operation that will keep him out of the team for the majority of the season – explaining that he will get in contact with him soon to send him his best regards.

He said on his personal Twitter account: “Andriy Yarmolenko’s has undergone surgery to repair a damaged Achilles tendon and is expected to be sidelined for around six months. I will personally let him know that we will all support him through this difficult time and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

OPINION

Yarmolenko has been a vital asset to Manuel Pellegrini’s team over the last few weeks, so his absence will no doubt be a huge setback for the Hammers. Ever since he made his debut against Everton, he has been the team’s driving creative force, and this will seriously be missed. The Irons need to get their season back on track after two consecutive defeats, but Yarmolenko being missing does not help their quest in the slightest. In fact, it is more likely to have a negative effect than positive – which is ultimately very worrying for them. However, West Ham are not a one man team, and they have plenty of other stars that can impress for them this season. Nevertheless, this is one setback that the club certainly did not need – but they will prove their pedigree if they are able cope without one of their main stars.
