A former West Ham player is in contact with the club about a potential return in the January transfer window, according to insider ExWHUemployee.

Speaking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way show on Phoenix FM (37:58), he claimed that a former Hammer had spoken to the club about returning to the London Stadium in the upcoming window.

Ex reported that the player was not former favourite Dimitri Payet, who currently plays for Marseille, and went on to suggest that the player was in the latter stages of their career.

He further added that he did not believe the move would happen.

OPINION

It would be interesting to find out exactly who this player is, but unfortunately there is not enough information given to even hazard a guess at who it may be. There is a suggestion made that this player is in the twilight stages of their career, and that would narrow down the search, but it would still be pretty tough to work out exactly who the player in question is. Also, it is unlikely that many fans would be interested in a return for any of their recent former players apart from Dimitri Payet, who it is explicitly stated is not this player. In terms of their business in the upcoming January window, the Hammers are reported to be looking at forwards, but there are other areas of the side which need more urgent attention. Left-back is a position which many have highlighted as a big issue, so if the club were able to bring in a quality operator there it would be considered a good mid-season window.
