Ian Wright shared that fans will be particularly infuriated with the way West Ham have lost games this season.

The BBC pundit revealed that he thought Hammers supporters would have been left raging about their players going down in games without putting up much of a fight.

Wright claimed that so far this season Manuel Pellegrini’s side have looked ‘tame’ and ‘pitiful’ across the board in their outings, and that there is no excuse for the players not rolling up their sleeves.

“They have yet to see the team win a point, they will be lucky to get one in the next three games and — worst of all — they have gone down with barely a whimper,” said the retired forward in his column for The Sun.

“And that last fact is the one which will really leave them raging, because while there can always be an excuse for a defeat, there is none for a lack of heart and fight.

“But that’s exactly what we have seen so far. No sleeves rolled up and running your hearts out, regardless of the score, just tame, pitiful, heads-down performances pretty much across the board.

“For that the players have got to take a long, hard look at themselves and start earning their salaries.

“West Ham supporters will never take pleasure in defeat but if you are putting in a shift, at least they’ll accept it.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with Wright on his assessment of how supporters will be feeling as a little bit of effort goes a long way. While Hammers fans wouldn’t have been shouting from the rooftop if their side had even managed just to pick up a point if the players had appeared to force their opponent to play to their best to get all three points than supporters would have been a little happier. However in the recent defeat against Wolves, despite the scoreline being only 1-0 to the Premier League new boys, the Hammers hardly looked like winning that game at any point. Several players lumbered around the pitch while others simply didn’t look up to the standard that is required. While the defeat to Arsenal was a heavier one, Hammers supporters actually had some positives to focus on from that game as certain players showed signs that good form was just around the corner. Yet it seems Pellegrini hasn’t managed to get a lot of his side battling for the team yet alone firing on all cylinders as of yet.
