Alan Shearer cheekily joked that he was surprised that West Ham attacker Andriy Yarmolenko hadn’t featured in his Team of the Week sooner after he made the pundit’s latest line-up.

The retired Premier League star shared that he had tipped the 28-year-old winger as one of the player’s to watch this season after the Hammers signed him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

However Yarmolenko was only handed his first start of the season by Manuel Pellegrini on Sunday against Everton and hadn’t featured in Shearer’s first few Team of the Weeks.

“Two goals on his first start, I’m surprised it has taken so long (I tipped him as one to watch!!!)” wrote Shearer when naming his Team of the Week for the Premier League’s official site.

OPINION

Yarmolenko more than deserves to be in Shearer’s latestĀ Team of the Week as he was sensational against the Toffees. The Ukrainian winger stole the show on his first start for the London club by grabbing two goalsĀ to help his side cruise to their first win of the season. Hopefully Yarmolenko is able to continue to keep tearing it up in the coming weeks for the Hammers as he has all the tools needed to help fire them up the league. The winger demonstrated excellent skill and an eye for goal in his latest outing and has set the bar very high for himself. Yarmolenko previously looked not up to speed in his first few league outings for the Hammers which all saw him deployed from the bench. Yet it seems the 28-year-old has turned a corner in his Hammers career and looks ready to be a key player for Pellegrini if the Hammers boss opts to keep using him.
