Mark Schwarzer heaped praise on West Ham attacker Marko Arnautovic and shared that he had proven his ability after just showing glimpses at Stoke City.

The former Premier League goalkeeper claimed that the Hammers’ 29-year-old attacker had been a revelation at the London Stadium in the last six to eight months as he is able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis.

Schwarzer shared that Arnautovic wasn’t consistent enough when at the Potters and would have been frustrated as well as upset over having people questioning his ability.

“Arnautovic in the last six months to eight months has been a revelation at West Ham as he’s delivering week in week out, what everyone was hoping he would and were expecting from him,” said the retired goalkeeper on The Debate which aired on Sky Sports’ Premier League channel (Friday 21 September, 22:56).

“He showed glimpses of it at Stoke at times, glimpses, but it just wasn’t often enough but he himself was upset and frustrated by people questioning his ability and performances but I think he’s really responded well in terms of delivering on the pitch.”

OPINION

Schwarzer is right to heap praise on Arnautovic as the attacker has established himself as the club’s star player after consistently delivering the goods. The 29-year-old was vital to the club firing themselves away from the relegation zone last season and has continued to look the main man in the early stages of this season. Arnautovic has even managed to shine in the first few games of the current campaign despite clearly not being fully fit. The attacker has been withdrawn from games early, having looked like he has picked up a knock, and it’s a testament to his desire as well as talent that he has done as well as he has continued to have clear issues. Hopefully Arnautovic is given the all clear to face Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday as Manuel Pellegrini knows he needs his star man leading his frontline if his side want any chance of getting a positive result against their unbeaten London rivals.
