West Ham attacker Nathan Holland has tweaked his ankle in training but is aiming to be fit enough to face Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup, according to a reliable club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who regularly supplies trusted information about the Hammers, shared via their Twitter that the 20-year-old winger missed the U-23s game against Liverpool’s U-23s on Sunday due to picking up the injury in training.

Holland hasn’t featured for the first-team yet this season but was an unused substitute during his side 3-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup.

OPINION

Holland is an exciting talent who can dazzle supporters and it would be nice to see him get an opportunity in the first-team against Macclesfield Town. The winger, who can flourish on both flanks, is an attack-minded player who could prove to be the Hammers’ creative spark if let off the leash. The 20-year-old has made only one appearance for the senior team and that came last season against Bolton in the EFL Cup. Holland deserves a chance to show what he can do in a competitive game for the Hammers’ first-team and there’s no better opportunity than the upcoming fixture against Macclesfield. So for that reason hopefully the 20-year-old gets the all clear regarding the injury he has suffered in training shortly as Pellegrini will no doubt be open to handing him chance against the League Two outfit. The Hammers are currently scheduled to take on Macclesfield on September 25 so that should plenty of time for the winger to recover from tweaking his ankle.
