Rio Ferdinand shared that all the changes in the summer at West Ham had appeared to have worked after watching them defeat Manchester United 3-1 on Saturday.

The BT Sports pundit delivered his verdict on the progress the Hammers had made in recent weeks under Manuel Pellegrini and claimed they were starting to reap the rewards for their hard work.

Ferdinand shared that he thought the Hammers made a real statement against Manchester United and spoke positively regarding the club’s future.

“I think it was inevitable (the early season struggles) because of the amount of changes that had in the summer so there’s got to be a little bedding in period” said Ferdinand on BT Sport (Saturday 29th September, as uploaded in a clip via Twitter).

“They had that and seem to have worked, they’ve been working hard on the training ground and they’re getting their just rewards.

“The last three results have been fantastic to away to Everton and win 3-1 then come back here and have a great result against Chelsea who are flying then today to sweep aside this Manchester United the way they did with the conviction.

“The way they played, the personality, in the end they were showboating and for Manchester United fans it was embarrassing, Man United players embarrassing but it was a great statement this season going forward.”

OPINION

It’s always good to hear Ferdinand’s opinion on the Hammers as he knows the club better than most. The pundit clearly was impressed with the Hammers’ latest outing and was quick to point out that it was their third good result in a row. Though Ferdinand did ignore the fact the Hammers smashed Macclesfield Town 8-0 in midweek when playing in the EFL Cup but that is understandable. The Hammers suffered a dreadful start to the 2018/19 campaign with some starting to questioning the club’s summer signings and appointment of Pellegrini but as Ferdinand pointed out, it was always going to take time to pan out. The Hammers’ new recruits seem to have settled and the latest Hammers boss seems to be in complete control and know what needs to be done at the London Stadium. Hopefully Ferdinand is right to be optimistic about the future at the Hammers as after the last few weeks, it’s hard to not be positive when dreaming what this squad is capable of.
