Former Everton star and BBC pundit Leon Osman has heaped praise upon West Ham United attacking midfielder Felipe Anderson for his display against the Toffees on Sunday.

The Hammers secured their first win of the season at Goodison Park, as goals from Andriy Yarmolenko (twice) and Marko Arnautovic carried them to victory.

But it was the other member of West Ham’s front three who impressed Osman; 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) Felipe Anderson, their big money signing during the summer window.

“On the left, Anderson had his best game in a West Ham shirt,” he wrote on the BBC Sport website.

“He played well in the first half against Arsenal in August, but this time he shone for the whole game.

“Whether he was running with the ball or sucking players in and passing around them, Anderson was terrific and he battled back too,” he finished.

OPINION

Every member of West Ham’s front three was excellent on Sunday, and their club record £36million signing was no exception. Anderson showed exactly how good he could be at Goodison Park, knitting attacks together and working to win the ball back alongside his team mates. As the goals came from Yarmolenko and Arnautovic it’s the two Europeans who’ve received most of the plaudits in the fallout from the game, but the Brazilian Anderson was an unsung hero. Consistency is the key for a player of Anderson’s ability. He can become a Dimitri Payet-like figure at the London Stadium, but he needs to deliver the goods on a weekly basis for that to be the case. He’s made a decent start to his Hammers career, though, and all he needs to do now is find the back of the net. If he continues to play like he did against Everton then he will not have to wait long.
