Young West Ham United midfielder Nathan Holland will miss another two weeks of action, crushing his hopes of playing against Macclesfield Town on Wednesday, according to club insider ExWHUemployee

The respect Hammers inside has claimed that the 20-year-old, who has been sidelined for a while, will not be available for another fortnight.

“Nathan Holland, disappointingly, was hoping to play against Macclesfield but he’s been out for a while with I think it’s his hamstring,” he said on The West Ham Way podcast.

“He’s still got another two weeks or so to go,” he added.

The news is a big blow to Holland, with Macclesfield representing an ideal game for him to make his comeback.

OPINION

This is a shame for Holland because clearly he was hoping to get back into the first team frame and had his eye on this match. It would have been a nice game to ease the youngster into the first team picture as Macclesfield shouldn’t provide any serious competition for the Hammers, but unfortunately that will no longer be possible. It’s slightly strange that the player was targeting a return against Macclesfield but is suddenly going to be out for another two weeks. Perhaps his hamstring flared up again, but the details are unknown at this time. It will be interesting to see if Manuel Pellegrini gives any other youngsters a run out against their League Two opponents on Wednesday, but for Holland it appears to be a first team opportunity missed. The 20-year-old still has a bright future and he will surely come back strong from this setback, but Macclesfield would have been a great opportunity to give him some first team minutes.
