West Ham senior star Michail Antonio was trolled by the Macclesfield official Twitter account during their Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday night, but the tweet backfired massively as he scored just six minutes later.
The Silkmen’s official account tweeted in the 23rd minute after striker Tyrone Marsh did a nice piece of skill around Antonio, claiming that he had “near enough ruined” the Hammer’s career.
0-0 | ⏱ 23’ | I can confirm that Tyrone Marsh has near enough ruined Michail Antonio’s career. Great piece of skill #SilkmenLive

The post then massively backfired as Antonio opened the floodgates for West Ham just six minutes later as the Irons went on to crush Macclesfield in a historic 8-0 win.
OPINION
Oh how the Macclesfield social media team will regret sending out this tweet. Yes, it was a nice piece of skill from Marsh, and yes, Antonio was left in his wake, but the hyperbole of the tweet certainly does not look so funny now. The Silkmen looked up to the task during that first 30 minutes or so but once Antonio scored then there was no way back for the League Two strugglers. No one however could have predicted that the Hammers would go on to put in such a devastating display, with that 8-0 win being their biggest victory since 1983. It always looked like a certain win for the Irons despite their poor start to the season, with their upturn in form recently coinciding with the fact that Macclesfield are lying bottom of the league pyramid with just two points from their first nine games in League Two. Not many will have foreseen an 8-0 win though.
