West Ham defender Reece Oxford has committed his future to the club, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim that according to sources close to the 19-year-old centre-back, he sees himself as “an Iron” and is determined to do whatever he can in order to help Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Claret & Hugh recently reported that RB Leipzig had scouts watch Oxford when he performed for the Hammers’ U-23 side against Spurs U-23 team on August 13 and that Bolton had also tabled an offer in order to take him on loan for the season.

OPINION

It seems Oxford is sticking around at the London Stadium despite reports throughout the summer that claimed he was on the verge of packing his bags. The Hammers were even believed to be ready, according to Sky Sports, to sell the 19-year-old enforcer if a club were willing to pay £10million in order to sign him. So it’s either a case of the Hammers being willing to wait for someone to see Oxford as being worth that much or Pellegrini feels the defender can aid the club’s defence. Given that the Hammers have conceded six goals in their first two Premier League games of the 2018/19 season then it wouldn’t be a surprise if Pellegrini is looking to already change up his defensive personnel.  However it is worth noting that when David Moyes opted to give Oxford a chance for the Hammers at the start of the year, he didn’t look good enough to feature for the club on a regular basis.
