West Ham United will not be completing the signing of Porto and Algeria midfielder Yacine Brahimi, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster’s transfer centre (05/08; 11:10) states that despite a deal being agreed between the two clubs, the Hammers have failed to agree personal terms with the player, who is valued at £23million.

The deal is now thought to be off, meaning Manuel Pellegrini’s side could turn their attention to out-of-favour Barcelona man Andre Gomes.

Despite sealing the signings of the likes of Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko this summer, the East London outfit continue to search for additional reinforcements ahead of the upcoming season.

OPINION

West Ham have done spectacular business already this summer, and they don’t appear to be finished yet. Their overtures to Brahimi have clearly been unsuccessful, but it seems the club already have an alternative target in mind in Barca’s Gomes. That fact means Hammers supporters shouldn’t be too upset about the breakdown of the Brahimi deal. The Algerian would’ve been a nice, goal-scoring addition to the team’s midfield, but his willingness to price himself out of a move suggests some character concerns. The Porto man has continually been linked with moves away from the Estádio do Dragão in recent years, but none have materialised. Due to the success that their transfer window has already been, West Ham can afford to miss out on a player like Brahimi without shedding any tears. Wilshere has already been brought in in central midfield, of course, while fellow new recruit Felipe Anderson plays in a similar position to the Algerian anyway. No harm no foul for the Hammers.
