West Ham will regret missing out on the services of defensive midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa who ended up joining Premier League rivals Fulham on transfer deadline day.

The Cottagers confirmed on Thursday via their official website that they had successfully signed the powerful 22-year-old from Marseille and handed him a five-year deal.

According to L’Equipe the Hammers attempted to hijack Fulham’s attempt to sign Anguissa for £30million (Source:The Guardian) as they showed an interest in the player at the last-minute.

This wasn’t the first time the Hammers had been linked with the 22-year-old either this summer as French outlet La Provence claimed in February that the Premier League side regularly kept an eye on him.

Therefore it’s very believable that the Hammers tried to a throw a last minute spanner in the works in Fulham’s pursuit of the dominant midfielder given they were thought to be keen earlier in the window.

Anguissa will likely be a force to be reckoned with for Fulham in the Premier League due to his ability and it’s a shame that he isn’t set to be a Hammers player anytime soon.

The 22-year-old, who will get even better due to his age, broke into Marseille’s first-team last season and was a very important player for them.

During his 57 appearances across all competitions in his 2017/18 campaign, he showcased his ability to read the game in order to intercept the ball and his knack for regularly winning the ball in the air for his side.

Pellegrini’s side would have benefited from signing a capable defensive midfielder, who also has a fabulous eye for a pass, that would be able to be a fixture of their team for many seasons to come.

The Hammers were in the market for a midfield enforcer ahead of the window shutting but instead opted to sign Carlos Sanchez instead.

While the Columbian may have a positive impact at the London Stadium now he has arrived, given he is 32-years-old he isn’t being signed as long-term solution for the Hammers’ lack of a ball-winning midfielder.

This all means that the club will end up regretting their failure to hijack Fulham’s deal to sign Anguissa as he will excel in the Premier League and help his new side for many seasons to come.
