West Ham United are set to sign young Portuguese winger Xande Silva for a fee of £2million from Vitoria Guimaraes, according to the Mirror

The newspaper report that the 21-year-old will become the Hammers’ eighth signing of the summer so far, with the forward penning a three-year deal with the Hammers.

The Mirror claim that the deal takes the club over the £100million mark in spending this summer, with manager Manuel Pellegrini still planning to sign up to three more players before the start of the season.

It is said that Silva will begin with the club’s Under-23 side, with his form to be closely watched by the Chilean boss.

OPINION

A deal for Silva has been reported to be in place for several days now, and all that is left to come is official confirmation from the club themselves. The Portugal youth international will certainly be a force for the Hammers’ development sides, and Pellegrini will be hoping that he can push on to graduate to the first-team set up in the coming months. The 21-year-old has some first-team experience with Vitoria, and is highly-rated in his homeland, having played extensively throughout the age groups for Portugal. The winger’s main attribute is his speed, which Pellegrini quite obviously likes players to have, and that should stand him in good stead to make an impact on English football this season. In terms of the other business mentioned here, it is surely unlikely that the Irons will manage to secure three more players before deadline day, but don’t be surprised to see one or two come through the doors at the London Stadium.
