West Ham United survived a big scare as they ran out 3-1 winners at AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, but many fans have taken to Twitter to slam Andriy Yarmolenko for a poor full debut.

Joe Pigott headed the home side ahead early on before a red card for Rod McDonald, with Issa Diop pulling the Hammers level in the second half with a long-range shot before Angelo Ogbonna and Javier Hernandez sealed a nervy win for the Irons.

Hammers fans have been quick to slam Yarmolenko for his lacklustre display on the wing against the League One minnows, with the Ukraine international failing to impress on his full debut for the club.

Forever West Ham have rounded up some of the best tweets:

OPINION

These West Ham fans are fuming at a poor display from Yarmolenko, and it is easy to see why. The Ukraine international forward was poor to say the least against the Dons, with his play on the right wing wholly ineffectual for the Hammers. One of the reasons why these fans may be so irate with Yarmolenko is the fact that expectations were high for him coming into this one. The 28-year-old has been limited to substitute appearances so far for the Irons, and so a first start against a League One side was expected to yield big things from the left-footed wide man. Instead Yarmolenko toiled against the lower league opposition and failed to make any kind of impact. It is a disappointing start to his career in east London for the former Borussia Dortmund man, but it is still early days, and fans must get behind him if they want him to succeed.
