West Ham United have confirmed that midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan, and many fans have taken to Twitter to slam the club for their decision to let the Switzerland international leave.

As reported on the club’s official website, the 22-year-old ace has left the Hammers on a season-long loan as he joins up with Fiorentina for 2018/19.

Many fans have reacted angrily on Twitter to the decision to allow Fernandes to leave, with some incredulous to the fact that the Irons have brought in Carlos Sanchez instead of retaining the youngster.

OPINION

These West Ham fans do not seem happy at all about the club letting Fernandes leave, but in all honesty the young Swiss midfielder has done little to suggest he has what it takes to compete in the Premier League. His two years at the club have yielded 48 first-team appearances, with just one goal and one assist coming in that time. These fans are talking about his pace, but you can’t succeed in this division by just being quick. His slight frame has meant he has struggled to keep up with the pace of the Premier League, despite his obvious talent. Persistent injury problems have also limited his effectiveness for the Hammers, and a move away looks to be a good move. This is not to say that he cannot be a good player for the Irons, and they will be hoping he comes back a more complete player next summer. Another point to make is these fans seemingly writing off new signing Carlos Sanchez before he has even played a game. Yes, his spell at Aston Villa was uninspiring, but he needs to be given a chance.
