Barcelona’s interest in West Ham youngster Domingos Quina could “facilitate” a move for midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper report that the Catalan giants have been heavily scouting the 18-year-old Portugal youth international, and are now looking to bring him in to their academy set-up.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Barca’s interest coincides with the Hammers hunt for full Portugal international Gomes, and a move for the pass master could be accelerated by letting Quina go the other way.

OPINION

While it is true that both clubs have been linked with moves for these players this summer, this seems like an extremely far-fetched claim. Gomes has just suffered an injury which is set to put him on the sidelines for several months, meaning a move away from the Nou Camp is looking unlikely at this time. The Portugal international and European Championship winner will now have to wait until January for an exit to take place. In terms of Barcelona’s interest in Quina, that is a move which is more likely to happen this summer, but the Hammers are also known to want to keep hold of the talented midfielder. While Quina will obviously be interested in a move to Spain with the Catalan giants, there would be doubts over whether he would be willing to swap one academy for another as he seeks first-team football. Barca have turned away from using La Masia as their primary source for first-team players in recent years, and his chances of breaking through would be relatively slim despite his obvious talent.
