West Ham United’s ambitious move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes is moving ever closer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Sport claim that Gomes is currently negotiating his exit from the Spanish champions, with the Hammers ‘best placed’ to sign him.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are working against the clock to get the deal done before the English transfer window closes on Thursday.

Sport’s report also claims that West Ham youngster Domingos Quina could be key to the deal going through, with the Catalans being repeatedly linked with a move for the 18-year-old winger this summer.

OPINION

If West Ham can get this deal over the line then it would be a stunning coup for the club. Gomes has had a massively underwhelming time at Barcelona, but before that he was a creative force for Valencia. Whichever side signs him, and gets him back to his previous form, are on to a winner because this guy is top class. The Portugal international is still just 25, and as such has many good years ahead of him. If the Hammers are able to bring him in, and partner him with Jack Wilshere in the centre of midfield, then things will be looking very rosy indeed in East London. The club are working against the clock, of course, and it will be difficult to negotiate a deal of this magnitude with such limited time remaining, but this could be the cherry on the top of West Ham’s transfer cake.
