West Ham are poised to have talks about trying to finalise a deal to sign Arsenal attacker Lucas Perez on Monday (6 August), according to reliable journalist Nicolo Schira.

The Italian journalist – who is known as a reporter for Gazzetta dello Sport as well as other Italian outlets – has revealed on his personal Twitter account that the 5″11 (source: Transfermarkt) top-six marksman is getting closer to a move to the London Stadium.

The 29-year-old spent the duration of last season on loan at La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna, and netted nine goals and registered eight assists during his stint in Spain.

OPINION

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has been seeking out a striker to provide cover to Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, and he may have just found the perfect one in the shape of Perez. He did not get much of an opportunity to show what he could do at the Emirates, but has evidently become re-energised during his loan spell in the La Liga, which can only improve if he makes the move to East London. The amount of attacking players with the Hammers at the moment means that he will get the vital service that he needs he if he gets the regular chance to play, which he is bound to get under Pellegrini. The Chilean will want to exploit the attacking talents of his new players to the maximum, and he will hope that they gel quickly to ensure that they avoid any relegation threat. Perez is sure to be a part of those plans if he makes the move – and could possibly take the club’s signings in to the double figures.
